DOUBLE STANDARDS
Related to country: Palestine

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

The issue of the conflict between Israel on the one hand and the Hamas militants on the other should be given a sober and straight headed approach if the conflict is to be brought to a total stop.
My born of contention here is that the rest of the world has been applying double standards when it comes to the issue of that conflict in the middle east.
For instance, when the WTC was bombarded and brought down to scrap, the whole world (without the slightest miss of a heart beat)joined hands and set out to seek those who were responsible for the attacks. Even the UN itself condemned and aided in the solutions that were sought by the USA in preventing such an occurrence from ever happening again.
When the people of Darful are dying by their hundreds the whole world is crying foul yet doing nothing tangible to end the crisis.
The issue of the Somali pirates was only for the Horn of Africa until ships from the so called eligible countries started to be attacked and hijacked, then did it become a priority to the nations of the world.
The state of Somali is going down and shall soon affect the whole world (and probably even become the world's downfall)with the kind of ignorance that the world has subjected to its woes.
When the Hamas militants started firing rockets into Israel and killing the Israeli people, the world was quiet and no hassle was raised to the magnitude that it is now when the Israel nation has been forced to protect its own people, by eliminating the root course of the problem.
I WOULD LIKE TO STATE CATEGORICALLY AT THIS JUNCTURE THAT I WHOLLY CONDEMN THE KILLING OF INNOCENT CIVILIANS, WHETHER BY THE ISRAELIS OR THE PALESTINIANS OR WHOMEVER, ESPECIALLY THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHO ARE VICTIMS OF MALE CHAUVINISM FROM BOTH ENDS OF THE DIVIDE.
The Israeli people are human just like any Palestinian or American or Briton or Arab or African or Asian and have the same equal rights to life and existence just like any other person in the world. If the Palestinians do not want to see their people dying, then they should face the fact that among them, there are a few individuals who are gaining alot from the conflict and should do all in their vested powers to stop them from provoking the Israelis and vise verser.
It is the worst kind of cowardice for a few individuals to use innocent women and children (in their hundreds)as their shields to perpetrate crime against other people in the name of whatever reason it is that they might want the rest of us in the world to understand.
They should come out and be counted, lay their claims on the table in broad daylight and make sure that they are just and humane and acceptable by all standards, from both ends.
The rest of the world should look critically at the sequence of the events that led to the escalation of the war
WITHOUT taking sides and making it all even worse. If both sides care that much about their respective citizenry, then they should BOTH STOP the violence/genocide and think of their people first before their own interests. Otherwise, that conflict will never end and the world shall soon suffer irrepairable damage by taking sides and drugging more and more innocent people to death.

CHILDREN AND THEIR RIGHTS
Related to country: Kenya

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Children all over the world are born of adults who themselves were also children at their time and the chain goes on and on and on. If today’s adults were not taken care of properly by their parents, then they would not be around to bear their own children. This does not necessarily mean that they met no hardships as they grew up. No.

The fact of the matter is that today the world over is more informed and civilized to a point where by it recognizes that each individual dually alive has its own rights of recognition and respect. These rights have been put into perspective and can easily be identified as per their respective application.

Children have of recent times been given more attention than ever before as they have been recognized............... (Read more; http://youthandchange.wordpress.com/home/children-and-their-rights/)

The Irony of Man.
Related to country: Kenya

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Today, the 1st of December every year is observed worldwide as "WORLD AIDS DAY". I have just come from an event organized by the government of Kenya nationwide to observe the day and reflect on the achievements and challenges that the Kenyan people have faced to date in tackling the HIV and AIDS pandemic. Invitations were mostly to those organizations and institutions that deal with "combating" the pandemic. What really caught my eye and attention, was a group of street boys and girls amidst a good number of school uniformed children and others having been accompanied by their parents.

The contrast and the irony of all those who were there talking about the youths and the children being our future hope for this country, one speaker after another standing and giving his/her speech and not even one of them addressing or even mentioning these children, even with the fact that they were seated on the grass right infront of everyone of them, sniffing glue from their containers and bottles. As they say or as it is said, these kids are a "ticking time bomb" awaiting to go off anytime. I have attended every celebration from the year 2000 at the same venue and the same thing has always been.

Most of these children are born of other street children who have grown up on the streets and become parents while most of them were still children. The hardships that they have to undergo, especially the girls are very unimaginable, including rape, molestation, violence and at times some of them are maimed permanently for life when they try to fight back and protect themselves. A good number of those who commit this crimes are so called "respectable people" during the day but when night comes, they turn into devils.

Though these has not been legally documented, a good number of the street girls have been infected with the HIV virus from these attacks and are spreading the virus among their street communities and also to those who dare attack and rape them or solicit for sex in turn for them to help and/or give them food. I shall be posting pictures of this event in a short while and I'll also send them to the media here in Kenya and await the response of the Kenyan people.

These is yet another reason why we are going to shoot a full feature film on the subject of the street children and use that film and others that shall follow soon thereafter, to sink sense into our larger community and the leaders, that if we do not act immediately on this issue, then not even our own children in our houses and home are safe. And more so, not especially our girls.
